White Night - White Heat

White night - white heat

Akershus kunstnersenter, Oslo (2000)

I've been working a lot with satellite images. Some of my installations use NASA satellite imagery on earth seen from space, images which represent night-time light emissions from earth. This romantic notion on (urban) life is contested when I choose images from different conflict areas, for example areas where people live urban lives without heat or electricity and thus pass unnoticed by the satellite. The visibility play in my white-on-white versions painted directly on the wall, and their presence in the gallery, where some visitors might pass them unnoticed, is an important potential for me.
